After scoring an impressive victory at SuperShowDown 2, SK Boxing Promotions’ John “Cruel Intentions” Stevens returned to the third instalment of the event in the only boxing bout on the bill. John faced Newcastle’s tough Mark Greener – a former British kick-boxing champion who has now converted to boxing.
Stevens started well behind the jab and landed some choice shots within the opening minute. Having felt the effects of one of the shots landed in the opening exchanges Greener changed his tactics and looked to frustrate Stevens through holding on the inside.
Round two followed a similar pattern, with Greener looking to land his shots and then hold. The better wok was coming from Stevens in what was a scrappy round.
Stevens started the third and final round well, putting Greener under pressure before he had the chance to hold. The pace then dropped off but the scoring shots were coming from Stevens.
The judges reached a unanimous decision in favour of Stevens, but full credit to Greener who put on a good display and used his ring craft to make Stevens work hard for the win.
Stevens moves to an impressive undefeated record with 11 wins from as many contests and is next in action at Scotstoun Leisure Centre on Saturday 30th June in a Scotland v Wales international event which will be Scotland’s biggest ever semi-professional boxing event.
